Rated Match Policy
On 1st January 2018, the ANZBGF adopted its official results policy , which is designed to establish a standard for the quality of results posted to this site.
The ANZBGF policy is supplemented by local policies, which give club managers the freedom to define local rules that work for the way their events are run.

The local policy for Newcastle Open is as follows:
All completed Newcastle Open Tournament matches (post 1st January 2018), whether played online or as a live tournament, will contribute to individual players’ Australian Backgammon Federation ratings.
The tournament rules available at all meetings shall be applied. Players will adhere to the normally accepted rules of backgammon. The general principles published by the Australian Backgammon Federation in their Rated Match Policy will also apply. Historical ratings will also be maintained in a separate Excel spreadsheet for the foreseeable future.
The Newcastle Open draw (live version) is currently randomly drawn Round Robin heats into ranked Final 8 and Consolation knockouts.
The Newcastle Open online (played as the Newy Open) is a double elimination tournament.
A match in which penalty points have been awarded will be rated unless it becomes a walkover. Settled matches, unfinished matches, walkovers and friendlies will not be rated.
The term ‘friendlies’ includes any match which is not part of the normal tournament schedule, even if it is played during a club meeting. Chouette matches will not be recorded.
Postponed or unfinished matches should be completed as soon as possible by arrangement between the players concerned and the result reported by both players
